Toddler + Teen Playroom | One Room Challenge, Week 4

Week 4? Not possible! Itā€™s moving too quickly. If this is all new to you, or you just joined in, let me recap. I am in the middle of a six week challenge to make over our playroom for theĀ One Room Challenge. You can read up onĀ week one,Ā week twoĀ andĀ week threeĀ or you can justĀ keep reading and Iā€™ll catch you up. šŸ™‚ This Ā playroom needs to accommodate and teen girl and toddler boyā€¦together. Sounds impossible, but Iā€™m giving it a shot. Hereā€™s the plan and itā€™s a good one!

Keeping with the plan, everything has been ordered. Yay! I ordered several alternatives for things Iā€™m slightly unsure about. I typically over-order so there are lots of options to try and just return the unused items. It really helps and cuts down on buyerā€™s remorse.Ā Ā Things have started to arrive and they look great, like thisĀ cuteĀ (but disturbing)Ā box full of animal heads! Ahh!

Animal Heads

I found this console table at my localĀ TJMaxxĀ and thought Iā€™d give it a try. It opens up the space and has a more ā€œteenager-yā€ feel for this side of the room, so itā€™s a keeper. But, (thereā€™s always a but), it showedĀ all of the wires for the satellite receiver and ethernet underneath. Not to worry!

I had my electrician swing by and clean up my mess. He moved all of the outlets up to the height of the console and turned them horizontally, so now they are invisible. Boom! Problem solved. Ā I will plaster up the holes, reroute the cords (see below) and it will be as good as new. šŸ™‚

Weā€™ve started to place the larger items around the room to get a feel for the layout and I really like how it looks. Each kid has their ā€œhalfā€, but the whole room looks cohesive.

TheĀ hedgehog lampĀ has arrived and is a definite keeper!

A funky shape has emerged behind the sofa and it might just be a great spot for my little manā€™s teepee.

As you see from the photos, weā€™ve decided on the rugs.Ā They are really perfect for the room and will hide my toddlerā€™s Nutella fingerprints, which are really a problem around here.

Iā€™m happy with how itā€™s coming along! I see a light at the end of the tunnel. What do you think? All feedback is welcome. šŸ™‚
