Toddler + Teen Playroom | One Room Challenge, Week 4

Week 4? Not possible! It’s moving too quickly. If this is all new to you, or you just joined in, let me recap. I am in the middle of a six week challenge to make over our playroom for the One Room Challenge. You can read up on week oneweek two and week three or you can just keep reading and I’ll catch you up. 🙂 This  playroom needs to accommodate and teen girl and toddler boy…together. Sounds impossible, but I’m giving it a shot. Here’s the plan and it’s a good one!

Keeping with the plan, everything has been ordered. Yay! I ordered several alternatives for things I’m slightly unsure about. I typically over-order so there are lots of options to try and just return the unused items. It really helps and cuts down on buyer’s remorse.  Things have started to arrive and they look great, like this cute (but disturbing) box full of animal heads! Ahh!

Animal Heads

I found this console table at my local TJMaxx and thought I’d give it a try. It opens up the space and has a more “teenager-y” feel for this side of the room, so it’s a keeper. But, (there’s always a but), it showed all of the wires for the satellite receiver and ethernet underneath. Not to worry!

I had my electrician swing by and clean up my mess. He moved all of the outlets up to the height of the console and turned them horizontally, so now they are invisible. Boom! Problem solved.  I will plaster up the holes, reroute the cords (see below) and it will be as good as new. 🙂

We’ve started to place the larger items around the room to get a feel for the layout and I really like how it looks. Each kid has their “half”, but the whole room looks cohesive.

The hedgehog lamp has arrived and is a definite keeper!

A funky shape has emerged behind the sofa and it might just be a great spot for my little man’s teepee.

As you see from the photos, we’ve decided on the rugs. They are really perfect for the room and will hide my toddler’s Nutella fingerprints, which are really a problem around here.

I’m happy with how it’s coming along! I see a light at the end of the tunnel. What do you think? All feedback is welcome. 🙂
